Crushed Stone Price per Ton
The US average plant price for crushed stone, year by year from USGS data, plus a calculator that turns a plant price into a delivered price.
What does crushed stone cost per ton? At the plant gate, the US average value was about $18.50 per metric ton in 2025 (USGS estimate), or about $16.80 per short ton. That is up about 40% since 2021. Delivered prices to a homeowner are much higher, because trucking, small-load fees, and retail margins sit on top of the plant price.
| Year | $/metric ton | $/short ton | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2019 | $12.36 | $11.21 | |
| 2020 | $12.69 | $11.51 | +2.7% |
| 2021 | $13.26 | $12.03 | +4.5% |
| 2022 | $14.31 | $12.98 | +7.9% |
| 2023 | $15.86 | $14.39 | +10.8% |
| 2024 | $17.50 | $15.88 | +10.3% |
| 2025 (est.) | $18.50 | $16.78 | +5.7% |
Why the price keeps climbing
USGS points to the same forces each year: new quarries are pushed away from the cities that need the rock, so haul distances and fuel costs grow, and zoning and permitting make new supply slow. Large producers have also pushed price increases through every year since 2021 while national output stayed near 1.5 billion tons a year. For landowners near a growing metro, that is the reason quarry leases are worth a second look.
Plant price to delivered price
Trucking usually decides the delivered price. Enter your own haul rate from a local hauler for a real number.
Plant price by product
The national average hides big spreads. Clean concrete stone and asphalt chips sell for more than base and fill. Hard rock such as granite and trap rock often sells above limestone. Sand and gravel is usually priced below crushed stone, except where good concrete sand is scarce. State-level values are in the USGS Minerals Yearbook state chapters.
